About our Reception Speakers:

Bob Mitchell—Atlantic Wind Connection

An estimated 1.9 million homes could be powered by capturing the enormous potential of offshore wind off the Mid-Atlantic coast.  And a new American super grid off the Mid-Atlantic coast would “unlock an important untapped resource, creating the foundation for a new industry and jobs for thousands of   American workers,” said Bob Mitchell, CEO of Trans-Elect, the transmission company leading the $5 billion Atlantic Wind   Connection backbone transmission project with sponsors Good Energies, Google and Marubeni Corporation.  The super grid will extend from New Jersey to Virginia and “once in place will stimulate the development of wind farms far faster than if they would each have to solve their own transmission issues” says Mitchell.

Bob Bennett—U.S. Green Energy Corporation

2011 will be a big year for the nation's leading manufacturer of Building Integrated Photovoltaics products. (BIPV's).  U.S. Green Energy Corporation recently announced its move to Danville, Virginia, and its plans to invest $30 million and create 372 jobs within three years.  The company currently manufactures slate roofing material with solar modules built into the slate, and are working on similar technology for shingles. Bob Bennett, vice president of USGE, said they are also working on building solar modules into siding and windows as well.  Only one element in their solar materials is purchased overseas, as the company works with local machine shops to have custom parts and machines made, and has also worked with Danville Community College's Regional Center for Advanced Technology and Training to have modeling of products done.
